AR & VR at The Museum

We love that museums ignite the human imagination. So naturally, we’re excited that virtual technology has two major roles in the cultural education of today’s museums. Augmented Reality can enhance the experience of interacting with museum exhibits. Virtual Reality can bring the museum to you, be it a trip downtown or around the world.

Augmented Reality

The magic of AR can bring bones to life (as seen at the American Museum of Natural History below) or restore ancient relics to their original glory. AR adds an element of wonder to education, engaging even the most reluctant student. Rather than replacing the imagination, we think of this tech as rewarding previous creative visualization that took place in the classroom.

AR also has the capacity to deliver multiple interactive layers of information. Holding a screen over an artefact can summon much more than the simple printed card traditionally displayed next to an item.

Virtual Reality

Can’t make it to the museum? VR can transport you instantly. We mentioned this possibility in our post on Virtual Culture & Art Appreciation. The idea of travelling to an iconic museum or gallery is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for most of us.

Yet, not everyone can make the journey, for financial or physical reasons. Even if you do have the opportunity to visit facilities like the Smithsonian, The British Museum, the Acropolis Museum, The Vatican, and many others, you won’t be able to do it often. If you’ve already got a Cardboard or compatible viewer, dive into London’s Natural History Museum and experience a Rhomaleosaurus brought back to life.

Would you like to go at a moment’s notice? Would you like to have an exhibit all to yourself? And consider the next level of VR on the horizon – touch. Soon, you’ll be able to reach out and feel texture of items you’d never be able to make contact with, ever.

New Realities for Your Organization

Whether you’re a non-profit, a school, a business – or something hard to label – if you’ve got something to communicate, consider AR and VR.

The applications for AR and VR are limited only by your ideas. Think of your most critical message for your clients, your partners, or the public in general. The images in your head are often nearly impossible to convey with flat photos or language alone. Using an experience to communicate has an impact that’s hard to forget.

Adding Augmented or Virtual Reality to your organization can achieve unprecedented levels of engagement.  Stambol Studios can show you how.
